I just finished reading Tollbooth for the first time and loved every minute of it. My reading was doubly fun as while I was reading I was inventing games and activities we might be able to attempt in our club meetings.
Our first game comes from the chapter called Confusion in the Market Place. Take a look at the introduction video here…
And then take a look at our SMS Guys Read Word Market here…
Now that members have their words they will spend the next few days mulling those words over until they build their best line/poem/sentence. They will bring those lines back to our next meeting, which will be Thursday May 1.
For our IBRG friends and anyone else who might like to play along here is how we did it.
We used words from the game called You’ve Been Sentenced. That made the handing out of words and then the word bartering really easy. The original plan was to come up with a list of words and then hand those out and trade them.
We used this worksheet as we went through the process.
Members now have about a week to compose the best line they can from the words they have. If the line needs help they will be able to do more trading next week, but might not get as many points as members who use their original words.
So come along to word market with us, play along.
ps. my words are…
the bathroom, acting, above the, slowly, spitting, mix and sloppy
I can see having some fun with these.
